Join us Saturday, June 22 for an afternoon of live music from 2:00-5:00 p.m. with Songa!
Meet Songa, an acoustic duo featuring Mario and Sherry Friedel, rooted in the Nashville songwriting tradition, producing original Latin and contemporary Americana music. In Songa, you will hear the eclectic American influences of jazz, blues, Latino, folk and bluegrass, instrumentally woven together with acoustic guitars, ukulele, percussion, harmonica, and prominent vocal harmonies.
As a former member of White Duck and an artist with Universal Records, Mario performed, recorded with or opened for musical greats, including John Hiatt, Jimmy Buffet, Neil Diamond, and the Allman Brothers. He currently collaborates with fellow Wisconsin musicians Howard Guitar Luedke, Janet Planet and Tom Washatka, and Nashville singer/songwriter Keith Duke. He has had big band arrangements of his compositions performed by the Water City Jazz Orchestra, the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band, and the Ripon College Jazz Ensemble.
In addition to performing in Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville and Chicago, Sherry, a vocal music educator, and church music director, has co-produced and published original children’s music and Wisconsin social studies curriculum (Wisconsin Integrated Student Creations). These songs have been utilized in over 2,000 classrooms in the State of Wisconsin. She was co-writer with Mario on a Christian cd entitled The Gift, and they have had original music published in the Unity Church Songbook, Kansas City, Missouri.
In Western Wisconsin, Songa has performed at the Eau Claire Jazz Fest, The Acoustic Café, The Local Store/Volume One, Vino Cappuccino and the Chippewa River Distillery. They are performers on the Flambeau Valley Arts Association Concert Series in 2019.
